Is this chair a good fit for someone who is 5ft 10, with an athletic build? Or is something like this too large?

PicsonThis is a solid chair. I mean we are getting into subjective areas of what people prefer but I don't think you'll find it too roomy. If you want a chair that sort of "hugs" you, you might want to try something more narrow like our Mezzo or Verona Pro models. But, personally, I really like this chair and have used one for more than a year.
