With the pro being rated to 290, if you were above that weight, what would be the concern? Discomfort? The stability of the reclining lock? Is the chair going to explode?
DagonIt is a combination of factors.  This is a relatively narrow chair and I doubt someone above that weight would find it comfortable.  The other concern is the long term stress on the chair frame and mechanism. This is a very high quality mechanism and it alone is rated for 330 lbs. but with all the other factors we made the decision to rate it lower than the mechanism.

ArozziScottI appreciate the honest response, and I am having trouble finding an affordable yet comfortable chair, I have actually come down from close to 400 and am continuing to lose weight, so I think I'm comfortable making this purchase because I know I'll be there in the near future. I mostly wanted to make sure nothing is going to snap if I sit in it.
DagonI would recommend our Vernazza chair.  It is rated to 360 lbs. , but I think you'll be fine, and has a wider seat that slopes more comfortably.  Stay tuned, I would not be surprised if there is a drop on that sometime in the future.
