Made of 18-ounce cotton duck canvas, the Field Bag by Artifact Bag Co. is as tough as the WWII musette bags it’s modeled after. It’s smaller than most messenger bags but spacious enough to accommodate a large laptop as well as other supplies: pen and notebook, wallet and keys, a book, an extra layer, a water bottle. That’s because in addition to the main compartment, the bag is fitted with two deep front pockets and a large, open back pocket. The removable shoulder strap, hand strap, and bottom are all crafted from vegetable-tanned leather from Wickett & Craig, a specialty vegetable tannery that's been operating out of Pennsylvania since 1867. The bag is finished with hand-aged brass hardware.
Note: At checkout, you’ll have your choice of three different styles. Each style is limited to 25 units.
It all began in a basement in Omaha: one man and the vintage sewing machine he found on Craigslist. Now, 6 years later, a bona fide leathersmith has emerged, filling orders—and earning media attention—across the globe. The man: Chris Hughes. His company: Artifact Bag Co. Hughes has hired a few extra hands to help out around the workshop, but everything is still made in-house, by hand, from materials he’s deemed worthy of the lifetime guarantee against defects in workmanship or materials that comes with every product.
