No matter how you look at it, the Artisan Cutlery Apache is a flat-out beast. Measuring nearly 9 inches long, this folder has a thick aluminum handle and a beefy wharncliffe blade. The choice of steel here is D2, a wear-resistant steel with good edge retention. A stonewashed finish on the blade goes well with the two-toned handle, which is available with a combination of aluminum and your choice of G-10 or carbon fiber. The inserts on the scales offer a varying texture to make the knife’s presence known in the hand. Plus, there are multiple curves—one short and one long—to facilitate a comfy, natural grip. Follow the handle to its base and you’ll find the glassbreaker tip, which can bail you out in an emergency. Deployment on the Apache is smooth and quick thanks to the flipper tab. Finally, the knife has an ambidextrous clip for either side.
