Product Description
To guess where the Osprey from Artisan Cutlery gets its name, you only need to look to its large modified-sheepsfoot blade. Shaped like a huge claw (which the fish-eating bird uses to devour its not-so-lucky prey), the blade makes quick work of slicing tasks with little effort ... Read More

Huge disappointment, gritty nasty action on this knife and of course no pen. I'd like to return this knife and of course, I will never see the second half of the deal. Massdrop is bullshit.

I just got mine today, and I have to say, out of the box this knife has the single worst action I've ever had the displeasure of using. It's gritty and feel like the pivot is way over tightened. I'm going to disassemble it and give it some TLC; I'll post an update once I get it apart. Also, not as big of a deal because I still like it, but the color is completely different from what's pictured here on Massdrop and Artisan's own website. I ordered the mint green expecting a soft green and the dark grey/black pivot collar and hardware. Instead it's a much brighter green with a blue collar and filler tab.
I'm extremely disappointed so far with this. Especially after hearing some rave reviews from one of my favorite edc youtube channels. I'm hoping a good disassembly will fix the action issues. all that ranting aside, the knife is absolutely gorgeous, great machining on the scales, and there's a torx screw on the lockside of the pivot.

Update: After disassembly and a thorough cleaning/oiling the action has improved 120%. The pivot looks like it was originally lubed with some kind of yellow grease, it actually left hardened residue where the bearings rested on the cut outs on the blade. It came off easy enough with some patience and rubbing alcohol. That seemed to be the biggest issue along with the pivot being way over tightened. After all that it's now a finger guillotine. The blade drops with no effort and the action is strong but snappy. After all is said and done, my initial reaction was a bit exaggerated, I was very hyped for this knife since I first saw it (I have a minor addiction to cleavers.) Having it show up the way it did kinda crushed my spirits. (once I'm not feeling lazy, I'll edit a quick comparison video of the action before and after the cleaning)

Are they China-made? Because TC4 implies that (this name is used in China, and US use Grade5 or Ti6Al4V name for same alloy).

I would hope it has a D recessed for the pivot if people will be going bush mechanics on it with screwdrivers. Free spinning pivot+loctite+screwdriver= broken hearts

If the handle material was something textured like G10 or micarta and the knife had an over all more utilitartian feel to it, I would probably order one. It is also currently too big for a "gentleman's knife" with the blade over 3.5 inches, which is the legal limit in many US juristictions.

They actually showed off a budget version of this with g10 scales this year at bladeshow if I’m remembering correctly. I’m keeping my fingers crossed it’ll come sometime this year

Artisan Cutlery’s blade shapes are sort of fun in their own way, but they are often (as here) matched to completely ridiculous handles. Too much blade, not enough grip.

If it were priced like the Buc, I'd probably try this as my first Artisan Cutlery blade
