BUMMER! I looked this knife up on EBAY and it was $199.00. NOW, they cancel the DROP because not enough sales. I think even if only 1 person wants it and joins the drop and then buys the item they should get it regardless of how many they sell. DROP needs to think about the people they are trying to entice and then keep!

I think OEM are what causes the price jump everyone is talking about. How many companies can there be making all these new Chinese brands that are popping up? When multiple companies have to get paid the price increases typically.
I don't know this for a fact at all, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, and as an opinion. Not a fact.
That being said, Artisan has some cool designs I would like to check out. @Kavik @greyworlder @ponagathos @Gunnersmate2

I know nothing about this company, and I've never tried any of their knives, so I can't independently judge the actual value of the company's work. I also didn't find this one available anywhere else during a cursory search. But if you look up WE knives with S35VN blades, combo titanium and carbon fiber (inlay or overlay) handles, and ceramic bearings in the pivot, they are usually in the ~$250 range. They are pretty much the same cost as their models with M390, which I don't usually see, but that's beside the point. Anyway, considering that, if Artisan Cutlery is as good as WE quality-wise, then this isn't that bad of a deal comparatively. However, Artisan Cutlery also has models with similar construction though that are sold at a lower cost than this. This model looks very close to their somewhat higher-end Apache and Falcon lines. They have versions of those two knives with the same handle materials and blade steel, both of which are sold for $187.49 pretty much every place I looked. The MSRP of this newer knife (and the new Eagle model as well) is $16 more than the other two models at $265.99 vs $249.99, so $199.99 again doesn't look all that bad. But that also means it could just as easily sell for this same price or less if/when other vendors get it. Do with that information what you will.

I LOVE the design aspects of that Pterodactyl, but I've never carried/used it

KavikI fell in love with the design immediately, and when it came up on Massdrop I had to get it. I have to say, the immediate impression is pretty favorable. I'll be using it quite a bit for the next few weeks at least.

Yes, I noticed Artisan Cutlery's prices jump way up when using S35VN. I have a couple of their D2 blades and they are very nice but I can not wrap my head around the the hundred dollar plus jump in price(for the same model) for the steel upgrade.

I mostly like to carry 3.5 to 3.75 inch blades, but I can go to 4 depending on the knife. That size range is what fits my grip best usually. Should've checked that site first, they usually have the Artisan Cutlery stuff I'm checking out lol. I'll probably end up spending a bit too much money and getting this damasteel version though.

Like I said, I don't love the handle, which is why I don't have anything like it lol. There's just something about the overall effect that makes it work for me on that particular configuration. I'm also experiencing an unprecedented (for me) desire to add a lanyard, which is why the extended liner thing doesn't bother me as much. I'll sit on it awhile though, because I'm saving up for a big purchase right now, so my mind may change as I revisit it over the next few months.

Wow so much for budget folders. I know it has premium materials but I'm not paying more for this knife then a knife produced by WE or Rike. The price is not outrageous but it's coming close.(imo)

I agree it's priced too high. I ordered the Massdrop / Gavko Thresher for the same price and that was the milled out version that cost $20 more. It may not have carbon fiber but it's designed by a well known and respected maker and built by one of the top 2 Chinese manufacturers IMHO. Having said that I do actually like the look of the knife and as others have said it will probably show up a bit cheaper at some point.

T.willyYup, i do like it too. Like I said, if it comes down to a reasonable price, I'll definitely be in for one later 👍
