I tried a Hayate and it was great, except for the varied movement resistance. Moving the mouse vertically has almost twice as much resistance as horizontally. Keep that in mind before purchasing.

SteakUm watching videos of a mouse sliding down each orientation makes your statement slightly true but I'm pretty sure real use makes your statement false...your statement is the first one on the internet ( i have been reseaching the hayate for a while now) I've seen about "2x the resistance". There may be a slight slight subtle difference that few can tell but you are the only one to claim that out of the many videos and threads I've read.

GeoggaIt's possible that time has distorted my memory, causing an exaggeration of the extra resistance. However it is definitely noticeable. I have read elsewhere that these Artisan pads feel considerably smoother after a brief wear in period. Being that this pad was brand new, that may have been a factor.
I thought the extra vertical resistance would not have been an issue for me in first person shooters, which is mostly all I play lately. However I noticed very quickly that my mouse and hand are almost never aligned perfectly vertically with the pad. So a horizontal movement in game would require a diagonal movement across the pad, which brought this extra resistance into play more.
