I was cleaning up the packaging material from my A&K Blue Note kit today, and wanted to send a reply to this discussion.
I bought the set about 6 months ago. I was interested in it the first time I saw it listed, and even after the "closeout" price, I was on the fence for a while, since it's $$$$.
It's a very interesting kit. A very high-end DAP, wrapped in a huge limited edition music collection. And it IS huge. I finally decided to get rid of the packing material, since it was taking up a lot of room. And those of you who ordered this are in for a treat. It's a HUGE/HEAVY package. I think it was about 60 pounds, and the box is big enough to hold a decent sized floor-standing speaker.
There is a very narrow market for something like this, and it's not surprising that A&K still has some for sale. You have to want/need a high end DAP, and be a big fan of the music content included. If you are looking forward to every piece; the player, the special case, the music stand and the books; you'll be happy with this kit. Every piece is professionally assembled/packaged/presented. IMHO, you really need to want every piece. I can't tell you how many times I tried to justify the purchase by figuring out "ok, the AK240 is worth this much, I'd say the book is $$$", etc.
Personally, I already had quite a lot of the Blue Note music that is included, but only in CD or original vinyl formats. Even though I know the source quite well, listening to the content pre-loaded on the AK240 was shocking. Some of the re-masters really show what high bit-rate digital music can sound like. For reference, the headphones I use primarily with this player are my HD-650's with a balanced cable. (my HiFiMan headphones need more power) The quality of the files, plugging the AK240 into my home stereo DAC, is also very good.
When you get your box, grab the player, plug it in to charge it up. Open the rest of the stuff while it charges. Then plug in your headphones and listen to "Somethin Else" by Cannonball Adderley. Enjoy.

SteKosJust received the Blue Note today and have no regrets beautiful player and fantastic music collection, a couple of the top acrylic sd card holders look as if they have some stress cracks in them so will contact Astell and Kern and ask if they have any spares, you should always keep packaging which adds to sell on value, although I hopefully will not need to and enjoy this rare quality collection for a long time to come.
