Does anyone have thoughts on these compared to the Dunu DN1000? Or compared to the Aurisonics Rockets?

bose301sHaven't personally heard the Rockets, but do still own the DN-1000, and the AX-60 sounds comparatively drier, noticeably leaner, with quicker bass and airier (though splashier, seldom strident) highs. The DN-1000 sounds more full bodied across the spectrum, with punchier bass (particularly midbass), less fleshed out mids, but also less splashier highs. In a nutshell, the AX-60 is more geared towards the critical listener (i.e. those that prefer a bright and detailed sound profile, enabling them to easily analyze and dissect any nuances), while the DN-1000 offers a more lush and immersive listening experience. That's not to say the DN-1000 masks said nuances; it merely blends them in, opposed to bringing them to the forefront.
Where I'm concerned, the DN-1000 makes for a much easier recommendation. For this reason, between the two, only seldom do I prefer the AX-60. Hope that helps.

Polygonlooks like ax-60 has a similar sound to my ie800s
you also make it seem like an analytical signature is bad. to me, i prefer something bright and airy. i've listened to the xba-z5's extensively. way too polite for me.

jwestarbConversely, a sound signature as dry, lean, and analytical sounding as the AX-60 is seldom admired. Whether good or bad, that's for the listener to decide.
And no, having been an early adapter of the IE800 ever since it was initially introduced, the IE800 is far more proficient, with significantly greater (sub)bass impact and less metallic highs. The AX-60 is best contrasted with earphones mentioned earlier (all personally still on hand). When the mood is right, I too reach for a bright and airy sound signature. But for those intents and purposes, the K3003i and FI-BA-SS, to this day, remain unprecedented.
