Actually, one more thing: the opening looks to be a lot smaller in this picture:
These ARE over-the-ear, right? Not on-ear?
I haven't noticed but you're right, they do look smaller. They're definitely big enough to be over-ear although you've got me worried now. I'm sure they'll be alright, but here's another picture

The reason the openings are smaller is to compensate for the typical loss of bass response you get with Velvet ear pads. Velvet ear pads, by their nature, do not seal around the outside of the ear as well as vinyl, so there is typically a small loss of bass. However, with our design, the velvet pad is a little larger and compensates for this by closing in around the ear a bit more. They are very soft, so they do accommodate various ear sizes, too. The result is an ear pad that is very comfortable without bass loss.
