Wow. Unbelievable drop. I have two Worldmasters, one from 1963 and one from 1980s. The Worldmaster is the original jetsetter's watch from the 50s and 60s. It holds tremendous cachet. (Think: rye whiskey on the rocks in first class on transatlantic United flight In 1958 - Watching that red tipped second hand sweep As the ocean passes by 25000 feet below.) You need this watch. It's for
I cant believe MD has pulled this one together but it is a must for any Swiss watch collection.

FraidyCatIt seems like a decent watch, and there is some history behind the name, but I wonder what basis you have for the ideas that it’s the “original jetsetter’s watch from the 50s and 60s” and that it holds “tremendous cachet”. The vintage versions aren’t very expensive or highly sought after. Perhaps they’re a little underrated, but you seem to be overstating the case, IMO.

WillVautrainI beg to differ. “Cachet” has nothing to do with price or with people outside the circle of knowledge of what they are looking at. Look it up in WatchUSeek or any of the watch forums. You’ll find a lot of people in the know who have a new or vintage Worldmaster on their wish list. Nobody raves about the Worldmaster because they cost so much or because they are the best watch or brand ever.
People who know what it is see the quality and value and know they own a rare piece of Swiss watch heritage that isn’t predicated on pro sports sponsorships or glossy fashion magazine marketing.
No supermodels or actors “overstating the case.” Just a faded memory of a time gone by.
Nobody makes a guilloche dial anymore. Nobody has deco applied numerals like the Worldmaster, and something about that red tipped sweep second hand just creates an aura and a mystique no other watch has.
So you can say I overstate the merits of the Atlantic Worldmaster, but I own two of them from two different decades so I clearly value them differently than perhaps you would. And I am certainly not alone in my opinion. You are entitled to your opinion about prices and whatnot.

FraidyCatI’ve been collecting vintage watches for about 18 years, and a I know a mid-grade Swiss watch when I see one. The Atlantic Worldmaster is a decent, mid-grade Swiss watch. The vintage versions seem to usually have plated brass cases and ETA, Schild, etc movements. Nothing wrong with them at all, but certainly not “jet-setter” watches commanding “tremendous cachet”. On the contrary, the vintage Worldmasters seem to fetch about $200 or less on eBay. I don’t mean to offend you or your favorite watch, but at least you could acknowledge it’s a watch that flies under the radar.

WillVautrainI'm more concerned about rye whisky "on the rocks". Good whisky should NEVER be drunk on the rocks. You ruin the bouquet, which rhymes with cachet.
