How do we know if our cars come equipped with the intercooler guard ?? And if we do not get 1 will that mean we have a higher chance of rock chips damaging our intercoolers?
Look inside your grille and see if there is a wide, black plastic cover over your lower intercooler. It will look like the one I linked to on ECS' website earlier in this discussion.
If you don't have one, you don't necessarily need one, but it's an extra layer of protection on the intercooler. Audi has, in a couple cases, denied warranty coverage to people who have had pieces of road debris puncture the lower intercooler. The guard was introduced later, and now comes standard on some models.
For the price of the guard, it's peace of mind for me.
