We've sent an email to JC Sportsline to see if they are interested in discounting their prices to "match" or be competitive with ECS, we'll let you know what they say. Manufacturers work on slim margins and, as such, don't have liberal price protection/no questions asked return policies. If bestbuy orders 100 laptops from Samsung, and then Samsung drops the price 2 days later, they don't get the better price (although if you buy a laptop from Bestbuy, and then the price drops, you can complain and get the difference). This isn't "fraud", this is business. Prices change (and generally always go lower).
The ECS grill is not the exact same as the JC Sportsline one. Maybe it's better, maybe it's worse. Maybe they're selling it at a loss (or zero profits) to gain market share, or maybe they've discovered a cheaper (and superior) manufacturing process. This is the world of competition, which is overall good for the consumer.
We realize it's a kick in the ____ to have bought something and see it fall in price (or go on sale) very shortly afterwards. Unfortunately with the benefits (and savings) of group buys, you lose out on some of the services (like no questions asked return policies, price discount protection, lay-away programs, 2 day shipping, etc).
Massdrop has worked with the Audi community and, at the community's request, contacted JC Sportsline and got a great deal on their grills (that are otherwise much more expensive through their site and 3rd party sellers). We've worked hard to provide you guys with reasonably quick fulfillment, strong communications, and there are hundreds of Audi owners who are satisfied with their grills. ECS Tuning's offering of a less expensive product is completely out of ours(and JC Sportsline's) control. Saying you were hosed, claiming fraud, or suggesting you've been taken advantage of is just plain hurtful to us.
In terms of the groupbuy, we have collected the funds from the group buy and wired payment to JC Sportsline. They'll be shipping the grills out soon. Our site clearly states that you can cancel your order for a groupbuy up until the groupbuy ends. Feel free to claim a chargeback on your credit card, your grill will still be shipped to you, and the appropriate documentation of the purchase will be forwarded to your credit card provider to make a determination.
