Can someone tell me what items i will need to purchase to connect these to my PC? What wires / any additional parts I will need?

CrimsonChinoYou are going to need additional electronics my friend, these are passive speakers and need some sort of amplification. The Micca Origain is a cheap option as are integrated amps from topping, you will also need speaker wire and RCA cables. If you get a device that decodes audio (usb in) you will also need a like kind usb cable.

CrimsonChinoI got an amp, two sets of speaker wires with banana plug endings, and an RCA to 1/8 in. (3.5mm) cable. I also got a DAC, but that isn't necessary and in my case I found it made an imperceptible (to me) difference compared to my laptop's built-in DAC. The amp I got is rated at 100 watts per channel and has two output channels. I think you could get away with 50 watts per channel. I'm kind of new here, so I don't know if I'm allowed to post links to Amazon. So I'll just post the names and you can search for it on Amazon: Amp: 2 Channel Stereo Audio Amplifier Receiver Mini Hi-Fi Class D Integrated Amp 2.0CH for Home Speakers 100W x 2 with Bass and Treble Control TPA3116(with Power Supply) - Fosi Audio TB10A Speaker Cables (buy 2): AmazonBasics Speaker Cable with Gold-Plated Banana Tips - CL2 - 99.9% Oxygen Free - 6-Foot RCA to 3.5 mm cable: 3.5mm to RCA Cable 10FT, CableCreation Angle 3.5mm Male to 2RCA Male Auxiliary Stereo Audio Y Splitter Gold-Plated for Smartphones, MP3, Tablets, Speakers, Home Theater, HDTV, 3M

philosoraffiHey can you help me? I went with your recommendation and got those exact cables, both the 3.5 rca and the banana plugs (2 of them). I can’t figure out how these plug into the speakers or my receiver! Do I need an amp also? I have a Sony STR-DH190 receiver. The banana plugs don’t fit in the back of the speakers, do I need to remove the tips, then strip the rubber down to thread in to he speakers? There’s a flattened metal end to the copper wire does it just fit into the back for the speakers once the speaker wire input caps are unscrewed?

a_paying_customerIt looks like the Audioengine's have a plug in the top of the speaker connectors. Try unscrewing the top part of the connector and see if there is a plastic plug in there, removing that should allow banana plugs to be inserted. If you have a receiver most can take banana plug inputs... if it has the "spring clip" style connectors on the receiver you won't be able to use the banana plugs. In that case use bare wire on the receiver side.

ElectronicVicesOk is it safe to strip these tonfit the bare wire on reciever? They work in the speakers but the reciever is only rca or bare wire (AmazonBasics Speaker Cable with Gold-Plated Banana Tips - CL2 - 99.9% Oxygen Free - 6-Foot https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FKJDTPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6G5aFbBH9PXT6)

a_paying_customerI had the same concern. It turns out that the banana plugs are just a little stuff at first. If you squeeze them down a bit and make sure they're going in a the right angle, they'll slide right in. No screwing or unscrewing required, that's only if you're using bare wire. Make sure your receiver outputs an appropriate wattage at the correct resistance. You might not need an amp if your receiver will work with these speakers. These speakers are 4 ohm and handle 10 - 150 watts each. The amp I mentioned outputs a maximum of 100 watts per channel at 4 ohms. For my setup: the 3.5mm end of the cable goes into my audio source, e.g. phone, laptop. Then the RCA end of that cable goes to the amp. Then two banana cables go from the amp to the speakers. Each cable has two parts, so there are four plugs in total.

philosoraffiI have the speakers and my Sony STR-DH190, that’s it. Was told I don’t need an amp. But my banana tip speaker cables did fit in the speakers when pushed, but they won’t in the red/white inputs on the STR-DH190. Do I strip the wire after removing the tips? The STR-DH190 has only bare wire inputs, red/white, and then 2 phono inputs but I obv have for total speaker inouts

a_paying_customerI think you should be able to take the banana plugs off the ends and then connect the to your receiver's bare wire outputs. The red/white connectors on your receiver are inputs, not outputs. I looked up your receiver. I wouldn't use it with these speakers because these speakers have an impedance of 4 ohms and your receiver is rated for 100 watts at 6 - 16 ohms (it has an amp inside). I'm thinking the wattage goes up if the ohms (resistance) goes down, because current (amps) goes up as resistance goes down at a fixed voltage. Wattage going up is fine, but I think pushing more current through the speakers may damage them. This is my first set of passive speakers though, so my physics might be wrong.

philosoraffiAnother user said these speakers worked fine w the reciever. When I unscrew the banana tips there’s a flattened metal cap over the wires, would that work to insert in the bare wire input of the receiver?

a_paying_customerThese speakers are not a difficult load, you don't need an outboard amp, nor could you add one to your existing receiver (must have pre-amp outputs). Yes you can unscrew the connectors on those cables and use barewire or replace the receiver side banana plugs with something like this https://www.amazon.com/Wakaka-Nakamichi-Braided-Connector-Corrosion-Resistant/dp/B07X6FGC46/

a_paying_customerhttps://youtu.be/D-g-MPzpQqc Yeah I think theres solder on the ends of the wires. I would take that off before inserting the wire into the output of your receiver. You want to make sure to connect the wire to the outputs of the receiver as shown in the video (note: I think in the video, they're connecting the wires to a speaker, not a receiver, but it will be the same process) not the RCA inputs.
