LittlePPUnless something's changed, I'm pretty sure Drop has a deal with Audio-Technica, so it should have full warranty and everything from AT themselves (Saw an official post from AT's Drop account on here about this.. can't find it, though). Don't quote me on any of this, though - all I know is that they at least used to sell things direct from Audio-Technica, so definitely not gray market.
No idea why Drop is really averse to posting important details like this on their buy pages, though...
bding@bding Massdrop is listed as an authorized retailer on AT's website. My understanding is that Drop covers their MassdropX colabs and that manufacturer warranty is in place otherwise. Now the comments will call on some exceptions where this has not been the case, but those appear to be just that - exceptions. Either way it is way more confusing than it should be.
If you want neutral signature, TH900 should not be on your short list. It's very V-shaped. Then again, D9200 is also not neutral sounding. D9200 was less detailed compared to my TH900SB, but also much less bass and tremble energy.
I preordered these from crutchfield and returned them a week later. The cups are so beautiful they almost dont seem real, the rest of the build is such a nightmare that its a sin. 90% thin, cheap plastic THAT CLICKS AND CREAKS LIKE HELL. The headband bars are attached by ONE tiny wood screw per side as you can see in the pic, so that moves and makes noise too. Cables attach into a hole in the cups that acts as an acoustic chamber for microphonics caused by stiff zippy cables (GL finding aftermarkets with A2DC). Pads are a very thin "protein leather" that were super sweaty and I cannot imagine would last very long. They did sound fantastic if you looked straight ahead and kept completely still.
What's the point of Drop if these are offered at list price? There is nothing different about this offer (and folks, the headphones always come with two cables - one balanced and one that isn't). These are very well reviewed headphones, but they're available everywhere else at the same price. Shame on Drop!
While I definitely agree with that in reference to all the full MSRP ChiFi releases Drop has been doing lately I still firmly believe this is mostly a MAP issue. These types of drops occurred previously on items known to be extremely hardcore on advertised price and Mass/Drop would include a cable, or a case or credit as a bonus on items that typically only see a discount in a dealer on a per customer basis. Been into audio for almost 30 years, MAP and distribution agreements in audio predate my time. Quad comes running to the forums every time Drop has some grey market gear to sell, as do Audeze (who really backstabbed Drop BTW) and others. These brands are trying to preserve a premium image, you don't get that when your gear's list price gets obliterated.
JML54Somebody always has to be that guy who whines about the price and doesn't understand about the credit. It's such a shame because many of these people actually deserve the headphone at a cheaper price.
