Sam44321They're $599 on Amazon, but it's from a 3rd party seller that isn't on Audio-Technica's approved vendor list. I'd been considering buying a pair anyway, but the risk isn't worth it. So now the real question becomes, will A-T honor the warranty from Massdrop, or is Massdrop picking these up from another random vendor and we'll have the same risk issue if something goes wrong with them?
This is the real question that's keeping me from buying them atm.
poteetb1Nice to see AT rep on this forum.
Could you clarify if W5000 has undergone any revisions in its life time? From what i read online, there weren't any, but clarification from AT would be good to know
poteetb1Well, thank you Mr. Poteet for lending credence to your statement. It's very much appreciated. I'll go ahead and put myself down for one.
You may wish to inquire with Massdrop if they can give your account official rep status so that your name shows up in red. It would help avoid confusion going forward and keep folks like myself from asking unnecessary questions.
maheeThere have been no revisions since the introduction.
This particular line of headphones is still "handcrafted" by a small factory that is in a small city in Japan, where our corporate headquarters resides.
The Naruse factory (not sure if I spelled correctly) is very much a small group of dedicated craftsman and women with the long play in mind. This results in a longer process factory than many of our other facilities. All of the high end X , Z and AD models are still crafted there.
The comments I continue to receive via this forum and others I work with are invaluable for helping shape the direction of future products. I will say to all the AT fans out there, we have some big exciting plans for late 2018 and into 2019 for Audiophiles. And some realignment of resources in Japan will bring a larger focus to our passions here. Stay tuned.
Astral_AbyssAnd Bill is just fine. Believe me, turned 50 in January, so avoiding the appearance of old. Met your MassDrop team there and that will make anyone feel old. What a passionate group of guys and ladies there, but, very young and talented. =-)
poteetb1Haha, will do. Bill it is. Just about to turn 45 myself. Supervising some new interns at work and they keep calling me sir. Feels weird. Better than some words they could be calling me I suppose.
W5000 will make a fitting birthday gift I think. It's been on my radar for a while. Glad you were able to bring it to us for such a good price.
Sam44321This headband is known as the 3-D Wing support system. IMHO, you will either love it or hate it. I will say once you try it, the long listening sessions with headphones makes this system very comfortable for wear. Downside, I usually like a little more clamping pressure, the earpads don't provide as much at the top of my big dome. I have found ways around this that make them more than suitable. YMMV.
poteetb1It would be interesting to know why the ATH AD x series do not have removable cables. Are there plans to do this in future, examples are ATH-AD1000x, 900x, etc
