Does this only work with the stock, 2 ft cord that it comes with? I don't really know how you are supposed to use this if this is the case. My computer is on the floor, not very near or accessible to me while I'm using it. The 2 ft long cord hardly allows me to set it on top of my tower, which is still under my desk and a couple feet away from me. I tried another, longer cord, and it did not work.
As a side note: I had to try about 10 different USB configurations before I got the annoying 'USB device has malfunctioned' error to go away. This thing is very finicky. I don't have a ridiculous amount of USB devices, either. Just a microphone, keyboard, and mouse.
edit: The longer cord I used was 6 ft. Can anyone confirm another cord (or hub) that works with this thing?

KyleLI read about issues with a longer cord not working too. Since I'll be using mine on a laptop it isn't a problem for me as long as I can get it to work. How did you get yours to work? I've been trying and have given up now. You *can* try this which I've heard good things about <6ft Belkin>: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F3U133V-06-GLD-Series-6-Foot-Hi-Speed/dp/B000621N26/ref=cm_cr_dp_asin_lnk
If that doesn't work (or if that's what you have) there are more expensive wires but I'm not sure how much that will help <1.5m Audioquest>: http://www.amazon.com/AUDIOQUEST-FOREST-USB-B-PLUG-1-5m/dp/B00415AHFS/ref=pd_cp_pc_0

payodpandaAfter an hour+ of crawling around on the floor, changing all my USB things around, going back up to my monitors to see if it was working, and then repeating, I think I've figured out the issue. Basically, it works for me if all 3 of my other USB devices are plugged in as far away as possible from the slot the DAC is plugged in to. So my guess it is trying to pull so much power that it malfunctions when things around it are taking power it needs. It is just a theory. I don't have a crappy motherboard either - it is an ASUS Maximus VI Hero.
For the record - I have gotten this thing to work in all 3 types of USB slots - powered, 2.0, and 3.0.
I've ordered a couple longer cords from Amazon, will report back if I can get them to work.
Also it should be noted that when this thing is working, it sounds great!

KyleLAha. Since my main (and only) computer is a laptop, I don't have a lot of configurations to try. Although I did build a custom build with Sager. I have ordered an optical cable from Amazon, and if that doesn't work I'm done for. I do have an S/PDIF out but didn't own an optical cable so I had said that I don't have the port at all.
I should get the cable by tomorrow so I can check and see if that works. I know that it *is* getting power since it does switch on. If it doesn't work with the optical cable too I'm gonna try powering from an external USB supply (phone charger) and see if that solves the issue. It would suck if it doesn't work with my laptop though, if I wanted a wired DAC I would have gone for a desktop DAC/AMP instead of a portable one.
Do let us know if the longer cables work for you.

KyleLI was able to get it to work with an optical cable; while they do sound impressive I'm still really sad that I won't be able to use them with USB only. Burning in my unit right now fwiw.

payodpandaGreat! I'm glad you got it to work for you. Sadly, an optical cable won't solve my problems.
I can confirm amazon basic's brand 6ft and 9ft cable do NOT work with this unit. Tried them in the same position I had the stock cable.
