yontNot a good match for an efficient headphone like the ATH-M50 . The D1 as a DAC would be great for the ATH-M50, but you're better off with a different headphone amp.

yontI've used my brothers D1 with ATH-M50 and I have a FIIO E10. I think the D1 worked well with the ATH-M50 but I'm no audiophile. The fiio offers more bass but I liked the sound the D1 brought out of them too.

yonthttp://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/02/headphone-amp-impedance.html If you take that article into consideration then the D1 has too high of an output impedance for the ATH-M50 and something like the FiiO E10 would make more sense which has a much lower output impedance.
