I've noticed that the price for this drop has 'dropped' significantly over the years. Whether it's because of old components, mass production savings or just a really good pricing from MD, a question remains: is this thing still a good buy? Considering that there are Dragonfly's, Centrance's (which I'm still waiting for it to drop) etc. Would you still recommend this product?
I wish to see if there could be an improvement in my level of enjoyment, like how going from MP3 to high res audio was just so amazing (I know, but man, MP3 files sound terrible now lol).
I intend to use it on my desktop, ASUS X99 A motherboard, using the Bose QC 35 first gen. I like Hans Zimmer's stuffs and other general movie soundtracks.
Thanks a bunch!

SurefireIts much better than a dragonfly black IMO and I consider it better than the dragonfly red. It's louder and has a nice quiet sound floor, it depends more on how you enjoy your sound, though I'd have to seriously A/B test the red against the D3 to get the sound coloring.
It won't power super hungry headphones, but it still sounds nice enough in most cases.

Brosefstalin42Thank you for contribution, i appreciate the feedback. I am not curious about a A / B Test ~ I do not feel that type of testing really tells you much, IMHO. I am curious how it sounds after you been listening to your favorite music on your favorite headphones for quite a while. You know, after hours of listening, is it engaging? If you put away your analytical thinking (that we all do with a new product) and try to determine your visceral reaction to it. Do you want to pick up the headphones and device the next night, for more listening? Putting your analytical hat on again, after a while of listening, does the sound-stage emerge? Do you have a strong sense of where the instruments are in recording studio, or on stage? I find these devices struggle here a little bit.
Loudness is not important to me, since i use an external AMP, I also have high impedance headphones.
IMHO, i would never use these small devices without and external AMP. Just my opinion.
Once again, thank you. And if you have any further feedback, it would be great.
Cheers

coolerkingI'll see, but probably not before the drop ends. It's kind of hard when I have 2 solid state amps, 2 tube amps, 1 battery powered portable amp, and 2 USB stick DAC/amps to use the USB ones. Pretty much the only one I use is the Dragonfly Red to a Magni 3 for my PS4 if I want to keep it quiet for others, so then it's mostly game, YouTube, or Twitch audio, not music.
With high impedance I'd assume it's not going to have the best soundstage, efficient headphones or IEMs might be different.
