This company is unbelievable. I bought these speakers in May and waited months for them to be shipped to Hawaii. I watched the shipping tracker move like a snail across the country. Finally it gets to California and says it's been delivered. They hadn't been delivered. So for a couple weeks I was trying to get a hold of customer support to here about what happened. They said they think my speakers were being sent back to the sender on New Jersey. I was annoyed but whatever, they can send them out with a better shipping method. Nope! The said they didn't know why they got sent back and have a policy of not giving customers items that have been returned or something like that. So I said I would wait for them to make another drop and I would love to receive them at that time. The customer support told me that there wouldn't be another drop of the AudioEngine wireles HD6 speakers and he said he had already canceled my order. A couple weeks later I wake up and THERE IS A NEW DROP OF THESE SPEAKERS!!! I already bought the cheaper passive version of these speakers, which are not as good by a long shot supposedly, and had to buy an amplifier to power them. WTF DROP! Your support team is pathetic.

tcurtis6984The HDP6's are every bit as good (or better) as long as you pair them with a good amp or dac. I would reccommend the NAD 3045 it would be better than spending the money on an all in one unit. Plus you can customize everything. I like the HDP6's with a tube amp also. You cant do that very well with an all in 1 speaker like the HD6's.

HifidudeUnfortunately the HDP6's were never delivered to me either. They made it to California and were returned again. Drop still doesn't try to fix their mistakes.

tcurtis6984Lame. I live in CA and bought 2 pair of the HDP6 from drop. One is using an NAD D3045 and the other is on an NAD D 2030 v2.... Both are great.... But the NAD D3045 handles MQA for services like Tidal and the extra power is really appreciated. Its a much better amp. I think the unpowered speakers are a better choice so you can choose your amp and DAC. The quality of sound depends on the freedom to choose your amp and DAC.

HifidudeNice, thanks for the recommendations. I'm gonna try another company to buy the speakers from.

tcurtis6984I have a pair of A2's that are great. Tiny speakers with big sound. I recently bought a sub direct from audioengine. When the quality of the sub was totally unacceptable they honored the return policy. I am going to return it and get some HD3's. I can speak for the great value of their speakers but their sub was mediocre/low quality. Going to get a REL sub for the HDP6's

HifidudeInteresting. I was looking at some of the monoprice subs. I'm gonna try to look for some more reviews on them to see what people think. Monoprice has great prices and I own the Monoprice Monolith M1060s that I love.

tcurtis6984Monoprice is a 30 minute drive from me in LA county. I cant speak for their quality but I know they have THX stuff and it should be good. My understanding is that it is better to buy a sub from a company that does not make speakers. However I am tempted to drop some fat cash on a THX 7.2 system from monoprice with an Onkyo THX amp.

tcurtis6984Also if you are looking for a great audio distributor check out upscale audio. They offer financing and sell hifi only. Here is a video with the guy who designs REL Subwoofers. Kevin Deals videos are extremely helpful for those prepared to drop some decent cash on Hifi. Audioengine is probably mid-fi compared to the stuff that Upscale Audio sells on the edge of LA county. https://youtu.be/3NWvDJVH1qY
