Got my T1 this afternoon. It sounds great, but I was hit with a $26.96 customs fee from Canada Post. It was made clear that UPS Mail Innovations would circumvent the fees. Hopefully my support email gets covered soon :/
No, UPS Mail Innovations does not circumvent customs; it only avoids the brokerage fee that would
otherwise be typically charged by using another UPS shipping method, like UPS Standard.

The only benefit of using UPS M.I. is that it passes it on to Canada Post (in the case of Canada) when entering into the country, avoiding the absurd brokerage fees from UPS. The customs, potential duty, and taxes, is all dependent on if the CBSA decides to charge you; sometimes you'll get hit, sometimes you won't.

However, if Massdrop inflated the value of the amp on the customs form I'd definitely complain to them about the inflated value. In the meantime, pull off the yellow customs sheets on the parcel (there is a page beneath the top form) where you can fill out a complaint or if you believe you've been misvalued. Along with that form, include an invoice proof that you paid a lower price, and write down what you think they owe you in the overcharged tax difference.
