Just got mine today. They only thing I can complain about is they just threw in the Gold Lion in there without any packaging/bubble wrap. The tube was just freely moving inside the box next to the Aune box. Luckily nothing happen but I wouldn't have been surprised if the box was handled in a rougher manner it might have crushed the tube.
You'd be surprised how much abuse tubes can take and still be just fine. I've dropped a bunch of big ST32 envelope tubes from arm height, bare, onto concrete floors and they've just bounced and happily showed no characteristic changes afterwards. These are tiny and light in comparison, but the glass is similar.
I would have to agree with you, I had the same problem. Even the box inside the shipping box was damage and the T1 box itself. I like to keep my boxes for things I brought, so this kind of annoyed me. But the unit work from what I can tell have not check the line out yet though.
I know the feeling. My arrived ding free thankfully though I hate UPS SurePost. Tracking is worthless when they use that.
Mine was floating around bare, within the big cardboard box as well. No bubble wrap around it, or its crushed box. Nothing. How Massdrop thinks that is an acceptable way to ship a glass tube is beyond me.
That may be true, but it doesn't excuse insufficient packaging, which is what it sounds like happened here.
Hoping the same doesn't happen for future drops.
The way the tube was shipped is very unacceptable and doesn't meet our shipping standards. I am having our team look deeper into this. If your order arrived damaged please contact support (https://www.massdrop.com/support) and we will make sure that you are taken care of.
Luckily my tube was okay, but this isn't the first time you guys had the exact same issue with your packaging of these bonus tubes. Take a look at page 10 of this discussion, and you will see similar complaints from an earlier drop of this product. Seriously, just wrap the extra tube in bubble wrap and secure it to the inside of the outer cardboard box with packing tape. Anything to keep it from rolling around and getting potentially damaged by the 3lb T1 box. These things are made of fragile glass, with thin metal prongs sticking out of them that can easily be bent, and they're worth $45 each. I shouldn't need to point out that they should be handled with care.
By the way, I do want to say that I am over the top happy with the quality and sound of the T1. This thing is amazing for twice the price. My complaint is only about the way the extra Gold Lion tube is packed. It's a really great sounding tube, so it would be a shame for it to be destroyed in shipping. Sorry for busting your balls on this issue, you guys do an amazing job otherwise!
