I've got a Q701 & I'm looking for an AMP/DAC. Am I doing it right with this model ?
Q701's are only around 60 ohms, so this amp will be great for powering your headphones, and will be fine for just about any other pair of headphones/desktop speakers you'll ever buy.
Not if you take damping factor into account. Most people look for 8:1, and since the output impedence of the T1 is 10 ohms, it wouldn't be ideal but it'll work fine.
Well this, rule of thumb is exactly that. Just a generic rule. The Q701 sound brilliant on the T1 Mk2, listening to them right now. The Bottlehead Crack has an output impedance of 150 Ohm. So actually no headphones except 1200 Ohm should sound good according to the rule of thumb. ;-) Thankfully, it's not that black and white.
Though this is a good rule of thumb, it also depends on the actual impedance curves of the headphones. Headphones with linear impedance curves should be affected less due to output impedance.
I'm actually going to be trying to drive the HiFiMan HE-400i and HE-560 with these ;)
