Newbie here to the world of dac/amp so might be a dumb question, since this is a usb dac/amp do I still need to connect a RCA cable to it from my pc? I am only going to use it to listen to music from my T-X0.

WarlockobamaI believe USB can cause timing issues or interference if you use cheap cables. Which is a problem with sound. Not so much with any other usb device

USB 2.0 @ 480 Mbit/s is more than enough for audio data streaming, today, and likely for a while. 3.0 will work, backwards compatible so the specs say. The concern is with the streaming / Isochronous part, it is exactly that, all the losses & corruption are yours... no correction, no re-takes, garbage out = garbage played, pretty much. You see soooo much talk about the data being digital ones & zeros, doesn't matter, snake-oil, yaddi-yadda, yes just kill me - you feel reading on and on about it. Yes, I thought the same, for a while, then thought again... so I tested it, done, simple. What really happens in the chip processing world of DAC's? It is really that you get bad data, oh well, the show must go on, we play what works, tone it down or just effectively mute it; here it is from a horses mouth (Cirrus that I use as an example): "The CS4398 can detect errors in the DSD data that do not comply to the SACD specification. The STATIC_DSD and INVALID_DSD bits (Reg. 09h) allow the CS4398 to alter the incoming invalid DSD data. Depending on the error, the data may either be attenuated or replaced with a muted DSD signal (the MUTEC pins would set according to the DAMUTE bit (Reg. 04h)). The clicks & pops folks talk about, that is catastrophic level data loss/corruption. This is something we can correct, poor signal paths within the DAC, well get a good DAC... you do have one. In addition the 5V quality from any PC likely sucks for USB powered DAC's. I feed my 5V from a truly split USB, not power from two connectors, into my USB powered Korg 100 DAC. I simplify [cheat] here with a good UPS, pragmatism again, for both AC (PC & amp) and the USB 5V I use a CyberPower CP1350PFCLCD pure sine wave, protects and cleans;) A good solution to many noise issues, but how this works so well at less than a $1,000.00 is an audiophile mystery...

rastusInteresting, thank you for the explanation. I didn't think about how error correction works on the DAC side. I don't know how much of an issue corrupted data is over USB, but it seems reasonable that there could be issues. Certainly seems reasonable to buy a $30 cable.
While it is true that digital data is all 0's and 1's, that data can be corrupted in transit. If it was not an issue there would be no need for CRC checks.

WarlockobamaYes, that pure, not plated, silver cable used to be $90; a steal now because of all the corrupted information about what is really happening with signal, in an audio streaming application. Pangea et al. know it's real, but marketing the thing with all the BS flying around has not worked out, the ones & zeros again. If you are just feeding the Aune T1, this single run cable is fine, the Aune is not USB powered. Do look into clean AC power though by some means, if you have not done so already. FYI, I spent the time waiting... and spoke with a real tech at CyberPower who was genuinely interested in my questions about using their unit for clean USB 5V for a USB powered DAC in addition to AC for everything else. He did not have ripple/noise specs to share about the 5V USB etc., but then neither do any of the USB stand-alone linear power supplies that I have seen, publish this info. The CyberPower tech said that their unit, while not intended/marketed for audio should perform well for this purpose. He did not scoff at the "audio" cleaners, but stated that they (CyberPower) are as good, read; they (high-end-audio) take you to the cleaners. I would like to see a technical comparison between units, but me thinks that may be taking the curtain to the side a bit,, so we will not be seeing this, follow the $... Somebody with both types of units and a good scope willing to test?
This we do know, the AC power going into any home, office, anywhere, unless you are in a data center or lab with conditioned power, is an AC shit-storm.
Why the top audio folks simply go off the grid, then they get to talk about battery noise:) Not kidding, they do make some noise esp. smaller alkaline... but damn, where does it stop... that's it Brownian motion is the problem... alpha particles and stop plate tectonics...

Oh, real! Get rid of/turn off all CFL, worst, all florescent lamps in the area and really all dimmable LED's, they are mostly using PWM, Pulse Width Modulation, for dimming, all are noisy. Yeah, use an Edison filament bulb, your amp tubes themselves or light some candles, romantic...
FYI: When we test machines where I work for CE emissions (EMI) compliance, low level nowadays, we turn off all of our crappy American florescent light fixtures to see our system emission, really, I watched the scope... for the French we test in the dark:0
Yes, all of these improvements are incremental, but they add up nicely when you listen to the result.
Another audiophile solution, when in doubt, spend more money. Summary; buy the silver surfer cable, a steal at that price, clean AC, turn off the lights and no ground loops.
