hey will this work alright with the m1060 planars from monoprice? im upgrading from nothing so standards arent really high, but i dont want to waste money either. . .
Coming from nowhere, maybe you could start with something cheaper like a Hifime Sabre 9018, Zorloo Zuperdac, Audioquest Dragonfly or Schiit Fulla 2. You can use them later as DAC (maybe not the best DAC, but they'll be better than most audio chipsets), and save a lot of money. For a little more, and if you have "something" as source (let's say a PC, DAP or smartphone), you can buy a headphone amp like the Objective 2 or Schiit Magni 3 (you can always buy a dedicated DAC later, and finish your setup). Or you can go big and buy something like a Schiit stack (Modi 2 + Magni 3) that offers great value and is a mid-game setup that won't be "much" worse than $1k+ setups, and also allows you to later upgrade to another amp or DAC according to your preferences. I started with a Hifime Sabre 9018 DAC/amp combo, half a year later added a Little Dot I+ amp, and eventually upgraded to a Topping D30 DAC. That's a great budget setup IMO, would do wonders with low impedance headphones like your planars, and it still drives high impedance cans like the HD6XX "just right" (not the best, but way better than the Hifime and MUCH MUCH better than stock headphone out on any PC or smartphone). My suggestion: don't go crazy and overspend initially, it's better to upgrade step by step, since it will allow you to appreciate the improvements much more and enjoy more the final result.
Yes, will work great. change gain setting to 2 on bottom of unit. it drives my alpha dogs and hifiman planars with ease
