Wow. Fuck this shit.
I just went to join and was hit with +$80 for 110v unit!?!
That makes it $10 more than the "MSRP" listed...
I feel like canceling all currently joined drops. Wtf are you doing MD?
PorchSongThat’s a nice setup. I bought the X1S about 1.5 years ago and added the X7S 6 months later. I love the combo especially with balanced cables for my 6xx and 4xx. IMO the balanced out is superior to the SE out.
mindhead1Agreed. I run my HD 6XX from balanced output, and my HE-4xx (I normally listen to these on my JDS Atom rig) from SE when on this unit. The balanced output is way better and much more powerful. The difference between both headphones is quite noticeable in volume levels when both plugged in at same time--the Senns are much louder.
Now I just have to painfully wait for my THX AAA 789 to ship in August. . . .
bfitzYou want a reasonably priced balanced headphone amp? Just get the Loxjie P20. Being a hybrid-tube amp is a pro or con depending on your preference. If you prefer solid-state sound, keep the OEM tubes as they sound close to solid-state. If you prefer tubey sound, roll the tubes to a matched pair of Russian NOS or GE tubes for less than $30. You want better power supply, upgrade to a Jameco 12V linear or a higher current rated Mean Well regulated switching power supply. With all these upgrades to the P20, you are still well below the $180 falsely advertised price-point. The HD6XX sounds majestic with the P20 + 6N3P-E Vintage Russian NOS tubes. The aftermarket balanced cable I bought for the HD6XX became permanent as I don't use the HD6XX on my JDS Labs Atom anymore after having the Loxjie P20. BTW I use SMSL SU-8 to simultaneously feed the P20 and Atom. I hope I don't get banned from Drop for this post but I have purchased enough items from Massdrop to prove my worth as a potential future buyer. Cheers.
LowFi42Incorrect. The X7s is an excellent amp to pair with a planar, as it's hungry for power. It's indeed a bad idea to pair this amplifier with a headphone that has low impedance and high sensitivity, such as the TR-X00 or IEM's in general. Planars on the other hand welcome the high power output of a Class A amp. I pair mine with a HE4XX and can't wait for my balanced cable to come in.
gyroscopicsYou recommend the p20 over the atom, do you or have you used the liquid spark? I have the hifiman 4xx and the sennheiser 58x and would like a decent priced amp that will make some kinds of difference, not just make them loud. What would you recommend?
PhrocassoI like the P20 over Atom for the HD6XX due to the sonic effect of balanced + tubes on the high impedance HD6XX. I like the Atom on my Focal Elex when I want accurate and analytical sound. M1060 + P20 is not a good combo. Elex + P20 is alright. I have a Monolith Liquid Spark too. It runs much warmer than the Atom so I took it off my crowded shelf. The Atom has a cleaner sound than the Liquid Spark at the same volume level. The Liquid spark has more reverb which makes the M1060 sound really nice. Amp-headphone pairing is kind of hit or miss, that's why I like having different combos. DACs have different sound signature too, especially the AKM vs ESS. Unfortunately I don't have the Hifiman 4xx and 58x, so I can't describe how they sound with the components mentioned.
gyroscopicsGood call on that Loxjie. Only $150 on amazon.ca👍
A question though, does it use both balanced and se outputs from a single source(like how x7s does) or is se in to se out and balanced in to balanced out?
