Choosing a DAC for your setup has a lot to do with the headphones, speakers, and source audio you’re working with, and the Aune X8 XVIII Bluetooth Desktop DAC does almost everything you could want in a slim form factor. Built on an FPGA architecture specifically developed by Aune for the X8 XVIII, this little desktop box is capable of decoding sources at resolutions up to 32 bits and 768 kilohertz. The X8 also features customizable AOP buffer settings via a bottom access point, allowing you to further tailor the box to your setup. There are seven sound profile filters on board for whatever audio character you’re looking for, and thanks to Bluetooth connectivity, you can lose the wires from your sound device as well. The X8 will work well in a variety of setups, thanks to multiple inputs—coaxial, optical, USB-B, and Bluetooth—and a few options for outputs including a stereo RCA pre-out, a 6.35-millimeter dual TRS jack for headphone monitoring, and a final stereo RCA line out. It’s nearly everything you’ll need in a form factor fit for any desk.
