Italian for “dawn,” Aurora was founded in Turin at the end of the First World War. Indeed, it was the dawn of a new era for battle-weary Italy. That was 1919. Today, the company still occupies the factory it was founded in. And while much has changed over the last 96 years, the quality of Aurora’s pens has not. A tribute to Italian perseverance, the Ipsilon Nera Tricolore features a solid black barrel with a red-white-and-green cap band—an homage to the Italian flag—with the company name and the words “Made in Italy” printed on it.
Note: At checkout, you’ll have your choice of nib size: Extra-Fine, Fine, Medium, or Broad. You’ll also have the option of adding a bottle of Black or Blue Aurora ink for an additional $14.50, as well as the matching rollerball pen (+ $80) or ballpoint pen (+ $65).
Made in Florence, the pen offers a tapered barrel and a snap-closure cap. The cap is appointed with Aurora’s distinctive pocket clip and Italian-flag cap band, which is constructed by way of a laborious 12-step process. The stainless steel nib produces smooth, even lines and is engraved with the company name. Because the pen is lightweight, we recommend posting the cap, which delivers a satisfying click as it’s firmly attached to the end of the barrel. The Ipsilon Nera Tricolore is compatible with Parker cartridge/converters, and it comes with an attractive gift box.
