From Liz Mullen, Writing Community: “Batle Studio is a local San Francisco art studio that creates these interesting objects out of graphite. They can lay down nice lines for quick sketches or taking notes, and their formula prevents them from rubbing off on your hands during use. Functional as well as decorative, they make a great gift.”
Made by San Francisco–based sculptor Agelio Batle, these graphite objects are equal parts drawing instruments and showpieces for the home. The series is inspired by Batle’s background in art and biology, along with the countless hours he has spent observing nature and studying its organic forms. Each object is meticulously crafted through a process Batle himself invented: Carbonaceous graphite (the mineral remains of prehistoric plant life) is combined with smudge-resistant compounds under intense pressure, and then fused into a unique shape. The finished product can be handled like a pencil or piece of charcoal and won’t smudge in your hands.
