Baume & Mercier’s roots can be traced back to the Swiss Jura. Founded in 1830, the company quickly built a reputation for precise luxury watches, one of which is on display here—the Promesse, available with a quartz or automatic movement. The Promesse’s stainless steel case is modestly sized at 30 millimeters, and it’s fitted with a sapphire crystal to protect the dial. Jewels are interspersed between the Roman numerals. Look closer and you’ll see the guilloché pattern in the dial, another indicator of the craftsmanship behind the timepiece. Some models even have 18-karat rose gold on the case and bracelet. Automatic versions are equipped with Baume & Mercier’s own BM 72671 25-jewel movement.
