Product Description
Featuring a broad 7.5-inch flame, Bella Tavola’s signature copper kitchen torch makes it easy to put that crispy caramelized layer on top of your crème brûlée; to get a crispy, gooey coating of parmesan atop your pasta casserole; and to burn the outside of a piece of top-shelf filet mignon just right. The wind-resistant flame runs hot at about 2,400 degrees Fahrenheit, so it doesn’t take much Read More

I’m sick and tired of these idiotic “child proof“ lighters that are really just arthritic adult proof . Someone please tell me where to get a torch that doesn’t require the dexterity of a child to operate!

Thanks for the explanation. That does seem a bit easier than the tiny hard plastic levers on Williams-Sonoma’s version. Can this torch be locked in the on position or does one have to hold down the button to maintain a flame?
captainCaptain, the flame can be locked into position giving your thumbs and fingers rest.

Does anyone know if this just takes standard butane fuel? Also does anyone know what the fuel capacity is?
HK-47Good morning, HK-47! Yes, the torch uses standard butane. But, please be mindful of the brand (s) that you use. Most butane from overseas has a lot of impurities mixed with the fuel and is NOT recommended as these fuels could clog the valve. A couple good brands to use is Bella Tavola and Zippo. Both fuels have been filtered at least 3 times and are made in the USA. The fuel capacity is about 1.5 - 2 ounces giving you a long burn rate.

How wide is the flame? I was thinking of getting something like this to sear my food after I sous vide it so I don't have to deal with the hassle of using my cast iron pan, but a colleague who bought a torch for similar reasons said that it's not practical. He complained that his torch (which is probably a different manufacturer) heats up such a small area at a time that searing a chicken breast requires tediously inching the torch up and down the chicken in narrow strips, and it takes so much time and effort that it's just not worth it.

WashingtonGuyThis is another recommendation for sous vide cooking: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Bernzomatic-Premium-Torch-Head-328626/203718633?irgwc=1&cm_mmc=afl-ir-197432-456723-&clickid=ToKwAszooxyJR9W0UfQwQyYMUkgSMf0DQSGu2A0

https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-sous-vide-gear/#the-best-searing-torch It is a bit intense and large (not as large as the youtube video), but there have been favorable reviews on forums.

Why would you want a material that conducts temperature better? For more severe accidental contact burns?
AngrychineseguyThat's a pretty creative comment. :) Actually, we chose copper due to its sustainability and the fact that it looks much nicer than the "average" torch. Most torches on the market are boring and just plain.....well, boring. Not to mention, we also upgraded the valve in this bad boy, allowing the flame to reach out 7.5 inches using the highest setting. Make no mistake, the nozzle will be hot after use as the flame is 2,400 degrees. So, don't go around grabbing the nozzle after each use. The body of the torch will remain cool as a cucumber! Enjoy your new torch!

What is the mechanism for refilling? Is this the kind where you have to fill from the bottom or does the top of the torch sit on butane bottle?
OFTHEHILLPEOPLEYou would fill the torch from the bottom.
