CdoyleI went with tan on this one....think it's about time I try my hand at dying G10 with RIT. Thinking this will look good on a nice dark blue 😁

Kaviki was gonna dye a purple endura w dark blue RIT but couldn't find any locally. I guess ill look online for the dye next. The tan scales should take the dye well and should come out nice. Do you dissassmbly first? I will but ive heard of people not.

CdoyleI've never done this before, but I always disassemble knives to inspect the internals, clean them up and re-oil them anyway. So yeah, i would do it with them apart. Can't imagine doing it without disassembling! You can't soak a knife in hot water without having to re-oil anyway. I saw some RIT at a local Kmart that was going out of business. Kicking myself for not buying some on clearance just to have on hand. So maybe try a Kmart/Sears/Target/Walmart in the laundry section? Or if you have a Jo-Ann's fabric or Michael's craft store in the area, those would be good places to check....anywhere that carries sewing/fabric stuff

KavikI did find some RIT dye at a local Walmart just not in the dark blue color. I was gonna check some other places just haven't got around to it since this was going to be my first attempt at RIT dying but the purple color has kinda grown on me so I probably won't do it with The endura now but will probably still try later down the road on another knife probably with lighter color scales to start out with so I don't have any experience with it on knives (just a little w clothing) but there are plenty of good tutorials on YouTube and bladeforums with pictures of before and after results which tend to turn out pretty nice. Me personally I would also disassemble although you could re-oil afterwards without disassembly but it seems it would probably turn out better just doing the scales by them self IMO. Post some pictures up when you're done with the results would like to see it.

CdoyleAt this point I'm just in the habit of disassembling for re-oiling anyway. Can be done without on many, i know, but t only takes 5 minutes anyway I'll definitely post pics of it when it's done :) Thinking a deep blue on this one, and maybe a reddish orange on the tan BT Kendo i have
