After the successful debut of the Best-tech model 1703, we’ve secured some more intriguing designs from the budding precision knife manufacturer. The 1701 is a streamlined folder boasting some of the best materials on the market. CPM-S35VN stainless steel is used for the blade, which measures over 3.5 inches for effective size during many tasks. The handle sports a frame lock made from 6AL4V titanium, with a pocket clip—anodized to match—also made from the lightweight and tough metal. Overall, the knife measures 8.5 inches, and you’ll feel every bit of it. The flipper features jimping for texture; when pressed, it rotates the blade out with a single fluid motion. Righties and lefties will be happy that the pocket clip offers tip-up carry on either side.

Developed by Crucible Industries (one of the leading manufacturers of specialty steels for the cutlery industry) and Chris Reeve (arguably the most famous knifemaker in the world), S35VN is perhaps the most balanced blade steel ever created in terms of all-around performance. It’s made through a process of powdered metallurgy known as CPM, which results in near perfect consistency in the distribution of carbides. Compared to conventional melting practices, the CPM process produces a steel characterized by superior dimensional stability, grindability, and toughness.
