My Beta QR fell off my quick release today and disappeared. It's too bad, since it was a nice little light. It would be nice to have a non-QR version that was shorter and more secure or at least an improved quick release.
That was my biggest fear...
Sorry that you lost your light, but thanks for reporting it.
It only falls off if it's not secure probably. or If there's a missing ball. I had mine slip off twice and only because I installed it lopsided. My advise is to feel if the QR is attached all the way by holding the light with one hand and wrap your index finger around the QR and tail - basically making a fist. You can feel the gap or if it's lopsided that way. If it doesn't feel straight then you just need to squeeze the QR plunger with your thumb. You'll hear click when it's in.
I'm not always in an well lit area so I can't always see if it's attached all the way. The first time before it fall off I yanked it and if felt secure but it was dark so I couldn't see if it was attached all the way. I was getting off from work, it fall off after walking half way down the block.
Prometheus lights designed the tail with a slightly tighter tolerance than what the QR normally attaches to. The QR is very secure once attached properly. Make it a habit to feel if it's fully attached.
I always double-checked to make sure the Beta was securely attached to the QR. I've still got the QR and I think the spring is too weak. It may have gotten compressed in my pocket, released, and because the light is so long, it slipped out when I was walking or sitting. I don't think the QR is well-designed--it's too long, spring is weak, and it doesn't solidly click into place--it's wobbly by design.
The QR works fine if it's hung on your belt loop. I think all QR springs has the same resistant. It made for quick release after all. I don't think it would matter if the spring was stronger. Is one of the ball missing on your QR? I can't imagine how it could detach itself in a pocket. It sounds like your pants has small or tight pockets. It's possible to compress the QR if the light is at the end of your pocket. But there's no room for the light to move how can it detach? It's like trying detach it with one hand by pressing QR with the light pressing against something. It won't fall because it's pressing against something and it won't detach if you depress the QR. It can only release if the QR isn't press against the tail of the light. It's a rare thing to happen if you think about it.
