The Prometheus is our second collaboration with Bexley Pen Company. Named for the mythological titan who gave fire to mankind, this fountain pen is as mighty as they come Read More
I recently received a Bexley Prometheus and I'm reasonably happy with it, with some reservations. I got the medium nib and it writes very smoothly. (Earlier, I participated in the Massdrop for the Bexley Imperial and had to settle for the fine nib, which I find too scratchy for my liking. I'm sending it off for a cursive italic grind and we'll see what happens.) Both the fine and medium nibs seem to need an occasional twist of the piston to get enough ink into the feed--a minor annoyance that I can't figure out. It is also a HUGE pen, but that's on me because I had the specs. I did want to alert you that there's a lot of variation in patterns if you choose one with swirls. I got the Purple Sands and, as you can see, there is almost no purple on the barrel and as a result, hardly any chatoyance on the pen. Since I am using the pen unposted, that means I'm not looking at any purple when I write. I was really disappointed when I first received the pen, but I'm learning to like it since this is the one I got. I'd rather have a pen with too few swirls than too many, but if this matters to you, proceed with caution. The colors are lovely and I find the cream-colored background somewhat vintage-looking and appealing. Overall I'd give this pen a B- when factoring in the Massdrop price--there are better pens for the money, but this pen has its charms and it's a bit different from the run-of-the-mill brands you see everyday.
Almost same price as a montegrappa but not the same. I suppose the top and bottom sections are plastic screwed or joined but not metal screwed which is more durable
Bexley pins suck! Their nibs are terrible and dont feed well at all. Plus you can get these for $50 off their ebay webpage and they are not worth that!
I wanted the sapphire chip with Fine nib, and since I was the first to sign up for the drop I figured I had a pretty good chance. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that it was sold out. To whom? I was the first one on there. Oh well. At that price I won’t settle for something I don’t want.
