Even though I already own the DT880/600 I must say I am tempted. I'm not a huge fan of the DT990 (too bright for me), but the 880 holds its own against the HD600/650 and K7Xxx/Q701, in my opinion. The DT880 is quite balanced in tone but I bit more detailed than the Sennheiser and AKG offerings. Sometimes this is exciting and revelatory, and other times it can be fatiguing or annoying (sibilance can be an issue). The DT990 is even brighter, in my experience. I can definitely see someone preferring the DT880/600 to the AKG or Sennheiser cans, however. When driven with enough authority I would liken the DT880/600 to a baby T1, though never quite as sparkling or stunning (the imaging and crispness of the T1 is unique). Even though I own the T1 and HD800 I still keep the HD600, K7xx and DT880/600 around just for some real-world perspective. I may have to sell my DT880/600 for this handsome ebony version...

qu11355T1 is better than the DT880-600 but not enough to justify the increase in my opinion. The T1 2nd-gen is better than the 1st-gen due to improved earpad design (holes on the inside of the earpads are different), driver/baffle changes, and the detachable wire. The original T1 with just the 2nd-gen earpads is a large improvement to me. Overall, the T1 still sounds like a more-resolving, more balanced DT880 to me (with more articulate bass, richer midrange and more sparkly treble that is less harsh as well). If you like the DT880 sound the T1 will provide a better version of that sound. The HD800 is a whole different animal than the HD600. If you really like the sound signature of the HD600 you may not like the HD800. The 2nd-gen HD800S is slightly less resolving than the original HD800, but it is more pleasing and forgiving with less-than-perfect sources. Sometimes I prefer the original HD800 with certain (PERFECT) recordings but I think the HD800S is more approachable for most people and most music. Bottom line, the sound signature of the HD600 and HD800 are not comparable IMO. Then again, I love both the HD600 (especially balanced) and HD800 and typically prefer Sennheiser 'phones in most cases (HE90 is still my favorite headphone to this day and I even prefer the HE60 to the SR-007 and SR-Omega, for example).
