It seems like a lot of people are confused about what this product is and how to price shop it. Here a few tips and pointers.
1. Beyerdynamic makes four DT990 models: DT990 premium (32, 250, and 600 ohm variants) DT990 Pro (250 variant only) DT990 Pro All Black (250 ohm variant only) DT990 Premium Manufaktur (32, 250, and 600 ohm variants). Technically the same as the DT990 premium just with custom colors and parts. All audio specs are the same.
2. The DT9900 premium is selling on the big online marketplace in 250, and 600 ohm for $249 right now. The Manufaktur versions are typically only available for special order directly through Beyerdynamic or someone that partners with Beyer like Massdrop. These are more expensive than the normal premium models as they are customized by hand in Brooklyn by Beyerdynamic.
3. The Pro model is the one everyone is referencing as being $130~ which is correct and is specifically for monitoring and studio applications (not to say you can't use it for anything if that is the sound you like). This however is the cheaper Beyer model and a completely different model than the one Massdrop is selling here.
I have included images below of the four different models so you can see the visual difference. Please just note all these differences when price shopping.
Hopefully that helps clarify as I was a bit confused with all the variants at first as well.

MATT2364The top right image is incorrect - it's Dt 880 Premium SE. Here you basically get a colored (all black) version of DT 990 Premiums for a 'better' price. The standard silver DT 990 Premium street price is ~150$ and you can ged Pro version even cheaper. Only difference (taking into acc both 250ohm ver) is the material used- Pros are all plastic, Premiums - alu cups and 'blades' on top. That is it. Just looks.

Kris_cheOn "you know who" you can send them back for free if you like! There is no difference in quality! how would you know about custom finishing in Brooklyn Matt??? I think it's bulls...! Massdrop is trying to get "the drop" on us! lately their customer service is horrible, as wel! Amazon's is superb! Customer is ALWAYS right w/them! !x

Kris_chePro version also has a coiled cable, tighter clamping force (though nothing that a bit of judicious bending can't remedy), and IMHO looks much more utilitarian. It's designed to get knocked about in studios, so no surprise there.
Last time I checked, the "street" prices for the 250 and 600 ohm premium models from an authorized dealer (important if you want a warranty) was over $200, not ~$150 (that's the 32 ohm version). It does, however, fluctuate a lot throughout the year. The all-black Premium version, however, is always well over $200 because AFAIK the only place you can ever get them is direct from Beyer. The $399 MSRP quoted for this drop is BS, however (sorry Massdrop). I can buy the custome Manufaktur model direct from Beyer for less than $300 last time I checked.

MATT2364I paid $175 for the 32 ohm Premium last April. It's now down to $148. The 250 ohm is down to $202. Don;t see a 600 ohm option.
Is there a big enough difference between the 3 to warranty buying a 250 or 600 at this point?

ScamdropBecause massdrop knows they are ripping people of on a daily basis so yes they actually pay someone to watch and move unfavorable messages so that they can take advantage of the unsuspecting consumer im not talking about this drop only but allot of other items maybe massdrop should be less worried about hiding how terrible they are and put the same amount of effort into actually getting us great deals and also being decent when it comes time to shipping and backing us up when we need to return the faulty pieces of inferior garbage they are selling you so basically if you would like to pay extra money, wait 2 or 3 months for an item, and then have no support when you finally receive the broken old stock piece of garbage MASSDROP!

RochambeauxThe 600ohm is $249 for the premium model on Amazon. Gonna need a beefy amp to power these properly, and the 250ohm needs a decent amp, too. So $219 for these is not that bad of a price for the higher impedance models in a custom color. But by all means get the Pros instead, no one is stopping you guys.

Petronas44It looks like someone stickied this specific comment to help answer a frequently asked question involving the confusing model variations with the 990. Other than that, all comments are auto sorted by date posted.
If a post has been moderated in anyway then there's a 95% chance it was done by me for some direct violation of our posting guidelines. Specifically ones that involve attacking fellow users or posting inappropriate links/images/text. But moving posts is not something I have the power to do.

AlexPkJust seems fishy and the more I look for products on massdrop the more unsatisfied customers I read about who receive broken or wrong orders or just never receive there products at all and have to go through weeks or months of headaches to try to resolve the issue and sometimes to little or no prevail. This is going to happen anywhere but is getting to be rare or non existent on other sites that have great deals. I do think it's unfortunate that this drop has so many people that are putting up confusing information about this headphone because it is actually a great deal and I really wanted to buy it but I currently don't have the confidence, I really hope to see things change in the future.

Frogmeat I am not sure you know what the difference between the two is.. because they are literally identical, except for a cable.. Pro and Premium are the same driver, from 770 pro and pre same driver.. 880 pro and pre same driver.. 990 pro and pre, guess what? SAME DRIVER! the difference? One is a coiled cable, one is a straight cable. both 5-35k hz.. both 96 dB.. both open.. both circumaural.. both have a power cap of 100 mW.. please.. give me a break.. the only difference between this model and the one on amazon is this one was custom ordered all black instead of ordered with colors, and is not the default all black. You have got to be a fool to believe they are any different. The one on Amazon is a pro, with a straight cable.. most of their pro lineup comes with a coiled cable.. smfh

CrimtideI have had the Pro and the premiums, and the pros had much tighter clamping and were uncomfortable, the Premiums are made with the same driver, I know that, but clamp less, and to me look nicer and are a lot more comfortable. The Pro has more plastic, and you cannot get them in 32 or 600 ohm. Might not make a difference to you, but for me the comfort factor made a HUGE difference between them. So give yourself a break from berating people just because they have a different taste than you.

FergyYes I'm sure you and others have experienced the same thing but I was only noting on every drop I've looked at there are lots of people whos experiences were terrible and aren't even being responded to, so thank you for your reassurance but I'm good I'll take my business elsewhere until I notice a change. I wasn't trying to get anybody else to stop buying from massdrop I was just aggravated that once again I find something I like on here for a good price and I hear people have received there headphones with either only one side working or they receive the grey version anyway and then either wait and wait for a response, get turned down, our just get stiffed all together so I won't buy from here until I see changes but doubtful I mean look at the msrp on everything why lie if you aren't out to take advantage of people.
