600 ohms? ... I guess this thing does not have enough power even when you plug it directly into the wall outlet. ... In all honesty tho... is there any reason to buy these instead of the BD 1990 pro or anything else really (concerning price/value equation)?

S1ngyyWell, I don't own the DT990 but I do own the DT1990 and they are fantastic headphones. The clarity and solid bass impacts, plus the crystal clear highs are first to none and I have over 30 headphones ranging from 50-600 dollars. Get the DT1990 you won't regret them and they are 250 ohms. My Sony Walkman ZX2 paired with the Fiio E12 portable amp more than plays them well.

TonyRizoI recently purchased a FiiO X7 MKII and am totally blown away by the sound even on my easy to drive IEMs. Im looking to get some decent to really nice over ear headphones to compliment the DAP soon tho... I have taken those into closer consideration so far:
Focal Elear Phillips Fidelio x2hr PSB M4U 2 Oppo Pm-3 Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro 1MORE tripple driver over-ear
What I finally puchase mostly depends on how much time im willing to throw in on saving up.
Do you have any suggestions on that? :)

S1ngyyI sure do buddy, it so happens I have the Fiio X7mk2 as well and while this player is full if software bugs, I run it on pure music mode and have found them to work best, no EQ. I have it paired with the other Fiio A5 portable amp and a beautiful compliment it is. Sometimes, engaging the bass boost is a must with some song especially using the Fiio X7mk2 since it's a tad less bass than my Sony Walkman ZX2. As to the 1 More Triple Driver Over Ear headphones, they are freaking great!! They have the same signature of the SennHD600 only on steroids. The bass is heard, even at very low volume because of the bass radiator Incorporated. And the separate tweeter is so resolving it leaves you in awwww. The 1 More Triple Driver Over Ear headphones are the only headphones I have that require no EQ what's so ever . Yes, these outshines the HD600 hands down.
As to the Fidelio X2HR, I almost pulled the trigger right before I went with the DT1990. Maybe my next head phone. I was a little hesitant because some reviewers state that the Fidelio X2HR puts out a little bass distortion but I may check out for my self. Another to consider are the Monolith m565 paired with the shure1540 pads. With a 66mm Planar magnetic driver and the pads swapped for the shures1540 the sound is on steroids, literally!! I love mine. It won't be analytical like the dt1990 but it will be the best clear bass pounding machines you buy, a step down from my Monolith m1060c modded open back from being closed originally. Hope this helps.

TonyRizoSurely this helps :)
I have originally taken the tripple driver over ear into considerqtion since wherever I have looked, i have only heard good stuff about them. Maybe I am just not that found in the industry at that time but they first seemed to me like a convenience-store bargain-bin product just from the name of the company and the headphones themelves. I am glad to hear positive stuff about them even here tho since they are the most affordable of the bunch and im short on money right now since purchasing the fiio DAP. Sadly these headphones are not available in any dedicated stores in my area here in germany and from the pictures on amazon ther seem rather tiny to me which would be kind of a hassle since I absolutely despise on-ear and my ears themselves are rather elephant like. Well how comfortable do they fit for you?
Also if you had the choice between them and the dt1990 pro for progressive rock, blues rock, classical, electronic/trance/elctro funk, and diverse metal genres reaching from melodic to death (depending on your own experiences of course :D) which one would you prefer?

S1ngyyI listen to all genres you've mentioned and while each headphone capitalizes on there own particular genre, so far the dt1990 plays all very very well but if you are the type to love real bass and listen at loud volumes, you will love the m565 with the shure pads because you will be able to pound volume and the treble wont kill you, the the music frequencies stay together and i don't hear the treble overriding the bass or vice versa, its my go to headphones when i want to pound volume. But if i can only have one, since i am an audiophile, Id have to chose the Beyerdynamic dt1990 because its all positive from design, build, aesthetics, and sound, it has it all. The 1 More Triple Driver Over Ears are uncomfortable to me and i have average size ears so you may just hate them but they are very nicely build. I enjoyed them for about an hour or two then have to put them down. If you are tight, the philips shp9500 sound exceptional for the price at about 65 bucks. The Philips A5 Pro sound darn darn good! at about 129.00 used to sell at 375.00 all aluminum and robust with twist off ear pads. I love them. The RBH HP2 have an intense sound and very very impactful and good at about 199.00 0r less. On a separate note, you will need a portable amp to pair with your Fiio X7mk2, as the sound signature is on the bright side and lacks a tad of bass, the fiio A5 with the bass boost at 129.00 is a must to make your headphones shine with just the right amount of bass and power. Even my headphones like my Grados benefit from plenty of power. Buy that first and you will thank me later. The Fiio A5 puts out 800mW of power, will rum 300 Ohms with ease.

TonyRizoFor me personally bass makes or breaks the music. Its really specific to what I am actually listening to at the moment. If I am listening to one of Savant's older albums the bass is just a must and is an essential part of the music itself. On the other hand, taking something like dire straits for instance, it would completely destroy the experience for me to have oversaturation in terms of bass but i guess thats what equalizers are for.
In terms of external headphone amps I have not really had the time to delve deeper into that subject since I would only call myself financially independent for about a month now being an university student. But I guess I will take my time trying different stuff out when I am back at my local HiFi store. In the end it all comes down to our own personal preferences.
Thank you very much for your time and you insights and have a nice day :)

S1ngyyWell for one thing the 1990PRO model is $700 compared to $179, so that’s one good reason to consider these....

ChesterfieldKingI personally am willing to save up in "reasonable" magins to pay for "premium" if the product satisfies me. Same thing goes for not being willing to pay "budget" if that means getting something that I regret purchasing regardless of price. In the end nothing can beat the ability to try out anything before purchasing it.

ChesterfieldKingI got a camecamelcamel notification that Amazon has them for $552.xx. I've been watching them for months. I like to save money, not that I'm cheap, but we know headphones go down in price. Why not save money, right? Anyway, I own the DT 880 Edition (600 ohm), the DT 990 Pro and the T90 (250 ohm). There is a point that it doesn't get better, but just different. After reading many reviews, I AM SURE that the DT 1990 are a fantastic, improved, more refined version of the DT 990. No doubt about that. But when I get them, if I can push myself to pay the price knowing what I know, I AM SURE I won't be wowed. I won't. I'll even feel bad that I spent over $500 and my cheaper beyers sound just as good, even if the 1990 are better versions.

raansire7Well Amazon here has the 1990 pro for 430€ atm which would personally fit right into my budget. Also I never really purchased over ears over 30 quid before so im sure i wont be dissapointed. Im thinking of buying some 770 or 990 down the line too tho to mod them for use with balanced audio just for the jist of it. Since my FiiO has a balanced out why shouldn't i use it ^^

S1ngyyWell, in your case you surely won't be disappointed. I'm sure I also would not be disappointed, but probably would not be wowed by them. Not because they won't sound amazing, but because the DT 990 already sound fantastic. The improvement in sound quality and good attributes brought by higher-end models in my experience is much less than 50% if I could quantify it, because the lower-end models are already almost reaching the ceiling, since they were once the TOTL models. Out of the affordable headphones, I'd call the DT 990 the most impressive-sounding. I wouldn't call them the best of the DT series, since the DT 880 are flatter and smoother-sounding, but on first listen, they're the ones that have wowed me the most due to their sound presentation. The bass is tight and kicks very hard, the highs reach to the stratosphere, the background is totally black, and the soundstage is transparent. Sounds appear out of nowhere.

raansire7I will try to get a side-by-side comparison of the DT 990 and the DT1990 today, hoping that my local store has both in stock, to get first hand clearance on if i could justify paying more money myself. Im in that awkward position right now where i crave something but my ability to purchase will only be there in a week so i figured i could atleast get a taste beforehand. I guess this is what it means to be an adult ^^. Also buying the 990 would mean that i have a reason to get crafty again, not that i wouldnt try to jam in a 4pin mini-xlr-jack for balanced input into the 1990 but there is always that kind of mildly infuriating feeling when tinkering with stuff that costs more than your rent so i would not try it after all. Im all about personalization and giving stuff your own touch, making them unique which in that case would also be a point for the 990. But well i will try and decide then.
Thank you very much for your insights tho :)
