The 990s are very fine headphones, but what we really need here is a drop on the 1990s.

sitruc912https://www.head-fi.org/threads/beyerdynamic-dt-1990-pro-beyers-open-back-mastering-headphone.814629/ In very brief summary: The 1990s are like a more efficient, detailed and mature 990 with the B pads and/or a more efficient, detailed, and mature 880 with the A pads.

NejiThe DT1990s have much more sub-bass than the less expensive models do; the output is flat down to 10 Hz according to some tests (and my ears)! I got mine from an authorized dealer for $400, but even at the typical retail of $600, they're worth it if you need to reproduce all the bass line in a recording. And they come with two detachable cables (straight/coiled) with 1/4" adapters, two sets of pads (for more, or less, bass), and a hard-shell case. I enjoy my 880 Premiums also, but they don't quite hack it for critical editing and reproduction. Yes, all Beyers are bright toward the top, but they're also time-tested designs and built like tanks.
