Beyerdynamic DT990 Premium Headphones

How do these compare to the DT1990's? I just got a pair of the limited edition black 990's from amazon and I'm really digging them so far. I'm curious what the extra "1" gets you and whether it's worth the extra money.

Sorry to hear that. Its a shame these headphones are so deceptively small. I still look at them longingly when ever I see someone on TV or even walking down the street (Ive seen this twice in the last year!) wearing them. As for other headphones, the ones that I own that sound the closest to these would have to be the AKG K7XX. They're quite similar in sound and price. I find they both have the same subtleness in sound. Very nice for most music. I have many others that I have found to be much better for my needs (all around gaming/music/podcasts). My current favs are the Fostex TR-70 and Audio Technica's ATH-AD700X. Both are pretty mind blowing for gaming, and both have very natural and big sound. And added bonus: both can be had for under $100! only thing about the Fostex's is that you NEED to replace the included pads with something else. I just got a pair of these and they hurt the top of my head too and can barely find anybody saying the same thing- did you manage to find anything at a similar price point that felt good on your head?
