I don't really know a lot about headphones, don't have a DAC or AMP, would be interested in getting one, currently have AT m50s, they're nice, replaced the pads with some Beyerdynamic ones because comfort to me is #1 (not an audiophile really) was tempted with the philips filedo x2's that I saw cheap on amazon the other day (AUD to USD is actually murder)
Is this worth it for me?

MitchyNot really an audio expert, but have this exact model of headphones (along with several others less and more expensive like HE-500, K7XX, MJ591, EX310, etc.) and consider that the sound is actually pretty good, but depending on your music tastes you might need to use an equalizer to adjust them to your liking. Personally i kind of like a good amount of bass in the music, so had to adjust the equalizer on the Fiio X3 a bit.
Otherwise, would say that for these an amp is needed. Using them with a phone only (personally tested with Samsung Note 3) while they don't sound really bad, the volume is actually kind of low, even at max volume. Certainly lower than the volume that i normally set when listening music (and don't consider that i listen music at a really high volume).
For use with no amp, usually the recommended ones are the 32 Ohm version.
The sound improves a lot using an amp, personally i have used them with Fiio X3 and iFI Micro iDSD.
In terms of comfort, consider that they are actually pretty comfortable and the build quality is also pretty good, though haven't used them for very long periods of time.
Got them from an Amazon warehouse deal at about 130-140 usd some months ago with free Prime shipping, not sure if i got lucky since i thought it was a really good price and they were like new.

JoezillaThanks for the effort in your reply! I suppose I'll seek out a DAC/AMP before looking at headphones, very tempting though
