SupralexI'm using the Schiit Magni and Modi 2 Ubers. I suggest you look into Schiit for reasonably priced gear.

SupralexO2/ODAC combo is always a good choice. Then use Razer Surround for virtual surround. Or get the SoundBlaster Omni for way less if you are on a tighter budget.

ZALHERAvirtual surround is always bad unless you want a fatiguing and exaggerated soundstage.

Supralexfor pretty much the price of the o2+odac, you can get an audio-gd nfb-15. the best you can buy for the money (function, sound quality, the hardware) at sub $300. the only downside is all warranty repairs and returns have to be sent back to china.

iGrenadeWhich is exactly what you would expect when they change the sound to improve positional accuracy and increase highs to stupid levels to amplify footsteps. OP aims to use it for gaming, I assume he would want positional audio. It's easy to turn it off for actual music listening too.
I suggested Razer Surround so that he can still get a good amp/dac without worrying much about the positional audio. Otherwise he would probably opt for a sound card and you know how those go.

SupralexI'm getting a SoundBlaster E5 ($199) mainly for the portability but will use it exclusively for gaming at home. Advantages to me are the built in Mic input which I will connect my ModMic 4.0 to.
