Bass is amazing, treble is extremely harsh at first listen but burn-in and an OTL amp take the edge off very nicely. My favourite set of cans at the moment.
Yeah I've also found the highs to be pretty harsh with all the Beyers I've owned and tried, with the notable exception of the DT1350: they sounded great even from the start and they're currently the only Beyers I still own. I personally found the 880 and 990 I had to both be weird/harsh in the highs, though I was running them from an SS amp and not an OTL. Perhaps that would have made enough of a difference.
