DM6 was good. DM7 is better. Much more transparent and detailed. Some additional thoughts for those thinking of hopping on the DM7 train; https://thecontraptionist.blog/2019/05/05/bgvp-dm7/
As someone said below the cost is not only warranted by the sound, but the components too. These aren't some cheap, mass produced product with little thought put into them beyond the spec sheet.
Ben4CansThe stock white and orange cored tips fit really well. The stock black wide bore tips slipped off every once in a while. Stuff with tighter cores seem best, like Spinfits, Sony hybrids, etc. Tips with wider cores seem to slide off pretty easily; JVC, UE, etc. I'd avoid those. These could benefit from a lip on the nozzle and since they're 3D printed, BGVP could easily add one.
I really like the included orange cored tips actually. Very Spinfit-like in their design. Super comfy in the ear. Don't really see the need to move to 3rd party tips since the included ones are solid.
TheContraptionistThanks a bunch! I sort of like the seal foamies give as well as some of the sonic differences to silicone. And they did include a nice assortment of silicone tips.
When you say tighter cores, should I be looking at say 4.5-5mm cores and not the 5mm and bigger compatible ones? Or did you mean ones that had some kind of ribbing in the core?
Ben4CansI measured the DM7's nozzle width and it is around 6mm. With a number of different tips, this was my experience:
JVC wide bore - slide off and get stuck in the ear
Sony hybrid - core is too small and they slip off by themselves even before being used
Spintfit CP100 - secure
Final Type E - secure
RHA Dual Density - secure
KZ "Starline" - secure
Magaosi wide bore - secure
Ultimate Ears (from the UE600) - slide off and get stuck in the ear
Generic green single flange with orange core that you get with every budget iem and their mother - secure
Medium bore tips with a stiff core, like the Starlines and RHA, felt the most secure to me. Stock clone Spinfits too, but they use a very flexible silicone. Hopefully this is helpful *thumbs up*.
