Yikes. Was hit with $34 in tariffs. Not necessarily worth it to buy it through MassDrop then. Hopefully it was worth the effort and ridiculous $9.95 CBSA handling fee. I'm starting to move away from buying from MassDrop simply because every single package (and I do mean every) I order from them is now subject to opening or tariffs from the CBSA.

Those are not tariffs, those are Canadian taxes you have to pay on anything (except food) in Canada or coming to Canada. Expect to pay them when ordering anything from anywhere. MassDrop has nothing to do with it. It's your customs at work.

Oh, and it's not CBSA handling fee. It's Canada Post processing fee. Educate yourself.

Would have been fine with the entire comment as it has been very helpful! However just looking at the document pasted on my package, it has the header of the CBSA, so it's quite easy to assume the handling fee comes from them but is paid towards Canada Post as I'm pretty sure the CBSA does not want cheques flying at them in the mail! The terms tariffs and duties are often thrown around to mean the same things, technically you're right! They're not the same thing. So I apologize about that! I say I'm moving away from ordering from Massdrop as the fees are piling up, not necessarily blaming them for the fees themselves. I expect to pay taxes on a few items here and there, but not on every single package I receive Massdrop or not. The educate yourself phrase seems a bit aggressive for a simple mistake. It's an opportunity to learn! Thanks for teaching me something I didn't know before. Tip for the future, not everyone will be as receptive to criticism in the form of curt and slightly menacing tones.

I have always been taxed for food, so not sure why except food? But I know for sure no tax on raw coffee/tea products. For Ontarians, there is also the no PST for processed food below $4 . But we still have to pay GST. Which province/ territory are you from? No tax on food! I will move to your place after I retire.
