Wanted more from BGVP, but for the price...
1st review of the DS1 Pro. The box said BGVP DS1. I was worried. The frequency response on the box said 15Hz to 35kHz, Uh-oh, that's not what the Drop info said. I already had a pair of BGVP DS1s. I ordered these Pro versions hoping for an upgrade with a different sound. Upon opening, no where could I find the model name "DS1 Pro" written anywhere. The IEM shells were a VERY BRIGHT transparent red, not the transparent blood red as the picture depicted. The cable was already connected, and because of the packaging, I wish they had not been, because the wire of the ear hooks are pre-curved but were being un-curved by the orientation inside the box. Looking at everything, and giving these a listen, I came to the conclusion that, as far as I could tell, the BGVP DS1 Pro is just the BGVP DS1 with a poorly packaged BGVP DMG cable (one of the best cables, EVER, btw). So in the end, I feel like I just got another pair of DS1s but with the better cable. It's not what I wanted, but it's well worth the price. If you don't have a pair of DS1s, get these as soon as they drop again. Unless you prefer slightly muffled, more bass, such as the CCA C10, this is the best IEM under $50. Even if you have higher end IEMs, such as the DMG or DM6, pick up a pair of these for traveling. The cable alone usually sells for $25. Buy, buy buy!

A clear progression of models from BGVP
I have to agree with the comparisons others make between the DS1, the DS1 Pro, the DMG and the DM6 or even the DM7, all from BGVP. There is a clear progression of quality and value with each of these models. The DS1 Pro reminds me of the Tin Audio approach to their line of IEMs. The T3 model and the DS1 Pro have a lot in common. They both are an improvement in bass and resolution of all frequencies over the slightly less expensive models in their respective lineups. For me, I enjoy the DS1 Pro more than the T3, mostly because of the fit. I don't have small outer ears and the Tin Audio line is just too short on the nozzles to stay in my ear very well, even if I enjoy their sound. But the BGVP models all fit me well and I hear the differences between the models clearly. The BGVP DS1 Pro is what I would call their best entry level product and a good choice for travel or outdoor spaces where you would not bring your best gear. The non-Pro version was a bit lacking on some sources as it was meant to be an inexpensive portable solution. But low-powered devices couldn't get the best out of them. What it lacked is what the Pro version fixes--bass, though not too much, with a slightly more forward sound. Beyond the DS1 Pro, the DMG adds some more presence and clarity, but it can't match the great responsiveness of the DM6 or DM7 models. With a very good dac/amp combination which can reveal things that other sources can't, the DM6 and DM7 really shine. They are not hard to drive, they just seem more aware of everything your music has to offer. The BGVP line goes from good, to excellent, to great, all within a pretty reasonable range of expense. So, I recommend picking your price point, knowing that you will get more from the BGVP line if you pay more. There is no doubt about that.

Decent budget IEM's.
These were my daily driver for quite sometime until I upgraded. Worked well and are comfy. Only issue I faced was the the original cable would make poor contact in left earpiece and it would lose audio. Replaced with a new cable upgrade and fixed it. Only 4 starts due to the poor quality cable in the box.

Long Break-in Required
When I first got them, I connected them to a good source and the sound was terrible. All harsh treble and almost no bass. After about 100 hours, the woofers caught up to the BA high end the sound became great. I have lots of high end phones and these are up there with the best of them after the break-in, before they were terrible.

Decent Budget IEM
First off, kind of a dirty move by Massdrop to play up the MSRP. I know that's just what they do, but still the MSRP on this IEM is pretty exagerrated. The Mids are decent, the Highs are crisp, the Bass is clear and present, but personally I would've liked a heavier bass, and the Sub-bass is hard to feel. Maybe I'm not using the right tips, but these are still a decent price for a relatively neutral budget IEM

Not bad. But not as good as I was hoping.
Tested with Audioquest Dragonfly Cobalt on iPhone X with Spotify (highest quality setting).
