Ahh, Form over Function, my old nemesis, we meet again.
This thing combines most of the flaws of knife blocks and magnetic strips into a single product: The reason to have a magnetic knife holder is so you don't have a bulky knife block taking up space on your counter. On the other hand, you might need a knife block because you have too many knives to fit on a magnetic holder* and, unless you only buy knives in sets, they don't really display that well. (Also, because keeping knives in a drawer is too inconvenient.)
How often, I wonder, do people who own these accidentally knock a knife off when they're reaching for one near it?

*The real reason most people with knife blocks have them is because it came with the knives, but if you're looking for an "aftermarket" block I assume you've moved beyond that.

OneDollarWilliamOne reason people might want a block over a strip is if they are renting and aren't allowed to screw anything in to their walls. Renting sucks.
