If weight was that much of an issue, why don't I just carry a real tarp and a length of rope? And save $200 in the process.

QbRtI used to just carry a length of rope and a tarp, it was practical, quick and versatile, but I like this so much better. Smaller, easier, lighter. I can use it for bicycle touring, an emergency shelter, when flying and need to be more size and weight conscious, this is perfect. I love it and recommend it. If you want to carry a rope and a tarp go for it. No one is stopping you. I don't see where you can have a valid opinion having never actually used a black diamond mega light. I was first introduced to it in mountaineering (no trees to hang a tarp on a glacier). We used it for our kitchen. Carved a table and bench out of the snow and set this on top of it. We could fit the whole crew inside to dine and meet. It was great. I have been sold on it ever since.
