I've been wanting to follow up on the BlackRock Gear Original down hat I got in a drop this past spring. At that time I expressed some concern about how thin it seemed. Link to my previous comment is below. Since then I've used it on several chilly mornings last spring and a few more chilly nights out and mornings this fall. And I'm still really not impressed. Yes, it's light. Yes, it compacts well. Yes, it's also pricey. I have a bunch of acrylic watchcaps with "thinsulate" that I've regularly stocked up on from Tractor Supply Co. for workwear and hacking around, $5 or less and even under $3 on sale. So they're about 66g as opposed to BRG's 26g, made in China as opposed to USA, and the BRG is a bit more wind resistant but, subjectively anyway, feels a little cooler to me. The BRG hat also cost me more than 10 times as much. So I don't think this was one of my better purchases.
