The fold-back feature allows you to use your bare hands (or gloved hands if your are wearing liners) on and off while setting up camp or doing other chores in the cold. You can push the mitts onto your wrists and not have to put them down. It is actually a very useful feature that costs almost nothing in weight or warmth.

I do not really see the need for them to be fold-back. If it were a "normal" ultralight down mitt and a bit cheaper, I would love it...

We also have a pair that's not a fold-back. They are the "Liner" mitts and are nothing but ultralight fabric with about 40% additional goose down than we put in the Foldbacks.
If I could do a cheaper price I would but we buy only the best down I can source, use excellent fabrics and then construct them right here in the US by my group of expert gear makers. If I didn't pay my guys a living wage I'd still be making everything myself. :)

Thank you for your reply, much appreciated! I am glad to hear that you pay a living wage.
Please do not take my comment as a general complaint about the price but rather to point out that a non-foldback version should be a bit cheaper than a foldback version if otherwise identical because it comprises less manufacturing steps than the foldback version. To me, the extra costs to create a foldback feels like money wasted because I do not need a foldback, and, therefore I am unlikely to join such an offer. Others might feel this way as well (or not), as I am sure you would find out if you did a test run with the non-foldback on MD...
On a more personal level, the sweet spot for me is a price of USD 60-65 including international shipping due to tax reasons, but that obviously is not a very objective aspect ;)

How's the wind resistance? Thinking of using these for paragliding but that involves a constant 30-50 kph airspeed.

Franklin,
Due to the Siliconized fabric and the amount of down they are very good in the wind. Sorry for the delay, I ended up being out of town during the drop. We've still got pairs listed on our site if you missed the drop.

Made in USA, out of Seattle - they make hats and gloves (one pack) so they don't spread themselves too thin! All the other reviews online say they are really good! (their site have some cheaper on clearance, but it's their last year's model and they only have smalls)

the fabric on the inside looks the same as the outside, just not with the water resistant coating.
I have down booties, and I didn't sweat or they didn't get wet from the inside at all, they kept me super warm at night! I can't wait to try these!

These things are awesome! I have been wearing BRG Foldback Mitts (both down, and more recently their synthetic) for over five years.
Underneath them, put on some PossumDown gloves, and over them put on the Mountain Laurel Designs 'eVENT Rain Mitts' and you will have yourself one awesome cold and wet weather hand protection!
